The Pontiac Firebird started it's life in 1967 as a response to the Mercury Cougar. Sharing the same platform with the Mustang , the Cougar was more upscale and were powered with a base Ford 289 V-8. Firebirds, on the other hand, were available with vast array of engines. Pontiac inline-6 were the base engine, while the Pontiac 400 can be had for performance. Convertible were also available as it was popular at the time. A total of 15,528 convertibles and 67,032 coupes were sold in 1967.

 

Sprint OHC-6 were available for the firebirds from 1967 to 1969, and today it is considered to be a collector's item. There was little changes between the '67 and '68. The total number of firebirds sold increased to slightly over the 100,000 mark.
